As a celebration of the UK's manufacturing and engineering excellence and innovation, Manufacturing and Engineering week brings the manufacturing community together for a festival of dynamic and interactive events.
On day two, representatives from industry and government gathered for David’s keynote on industry trends and UK productivity.
Presenting findings from the report, David discussed the adequacy of R&D investment to support the UK's goal of becoming an "innovation nation" and the recent shifts in the economic structure of different regions in the UK.
After the presentation, there was a Q&A session focused on how the UK can effectively adapt to new technology trends to enhance its competitiveness in the supply chain. David said:
“I am really pleased to have had the chance to discuss the UK Innovation Report during M and E week. The recent government restructuring shows a commitment to using scientific and technical innovations to help make the UK the most innovative economy in the world so it’s a timely moment to share report findings with colleagues who will be at the forefront of that change.”
The UK Innovation Report 2023, compiled by Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy, brings together innovation and value-added indicators in a single resource.
Among other analyses, the report looks at whether the UK is producing enough scientists and engineers and how innovation translates into internationally competitive industries and well-paid jobs. It also provides deep dives into the food, drinks, and aerospace sectors, offering insights into the structure and performance of these UK industries.
